1) Will the Wiremold 817B flange work over both carpet and tile floors?
The 817B is a combination carpet and tile flange, so one part covers both floor coverings around a Modulink 880MP floor box. That is the point of the combination design: you do not have to decide between a carpet-only or tile-only trim ring when the finished floor spec is still moving, and you can standardize on one flange across an office floor where some rooms get broadloom and others get tile.
2) What is the difference between the Wiremold 817B and the 827B floor box flange?
Gang count. The 817B is the one gang brass combination carpet and tile flange and the 827B is the two gang version. Match the flange to the number of gangs in the 880MP box you are trimming out, not to the number of devices you plan to install today, since the flange has to frame the full box opening.
3) Do these brass flanges fit any floor box, or only Wiremold Modulink boxes?
These are 880MP Series cover plate flanges, made to fit Wiremold Modulink floor boxes in that series. They are not a universal trim ring. If the box already in your slab is another series or another manufacturer, the flange opening will not line up, so identify the box series before ordering.
4) Does the 817B brass flange come with the floor box and cover plate, or is it just the trim?
Just the flange. The 817B and 827B are cover plate flanges for the Modulink 880MP system, so the floor box itself and the cover plate are separate orders. If you are building a new opening from scratch, plan on the box, the cover, and the matching gang flange.
5) Is the Wiremold 817B flange solid brass or brass plated?
Solid brass, with a brass finish rather than a plating over another metal. For a property manager that matters two ways: it holds up to corrosion in floors that get mopped or wet-cleaned, and the color goes all the way through, so a scuff from a chair caster or a floor buffer does not expose a different base metal underneath.
6) I am replacing a damaged floor box cover flange in an office. Do I need to pull the box out of the slab?
No. The flange is the trim piece that sits at the finished floor around the cover plate, so on an 880MP box it comes off and goes back on from above. The box stays in the slab and the wiring stays undisturbed. This is the usual fix when a flange gets bent by a pallet jack or dented during a tenant move-out.
7) Will a brass floor box flange match brass thresholds and hardware in a hotel lobby?
The finish is brass, both in material and appearance, so it reads with other brass floor and door hardware rather than against it. Where an unfinished or painted steel flange would stand out in a lobby or conference room floor, this one is meant to be seen. If your building standard is a dark or satin finish, this is the wrong flange for that spec.
