1) Will a Wiremold 880MP floor box work in a concrete pour, or is it only for wood floors?
The 880MP is a nonmetallic PVC box, which is the material you want in concrete: PVC will not corrode against wet concrete or the alkalinity of the slab the way a steel box can. At 6 inches high on the 880MP and 6 3/16 inches on the 880MP2, you need slab depth to bury it, so confirm your pour depth before committing. In wood frame construction it goes between joists on the same basis.
2) Is the Wiremold 880MP box metal or plastic, and does that matter for grounding?
PVC, nonmetallic. That means the box itself is not part of the grounding path, so your equipment grounding conductor has to be carried through to the device and bonded at the device rather than relying on the box. Contractors used to steel floor boxes trip on this one. The upside is corrosion resistance in a floor where moisture and mop water are a fact of life.
3) Can I run power and data in the same Wiremold Modulink floor box?
That is what the two gang 880MP2 is built around. With 8 1/4 inches of length against the single gang's 5 1/2 inches, you have room to keep line voltage in one gang and low voltage communications in the other. Separation between the two is the reason to spend the extra length. In the single gang 880MP you would be putting both in one compartment, which most spec writers will not accept.
4) Does the Wiremold Modulink 880MP work with other Modulink parts I already have on the job?
The 880MP is part of the Wiremold Modulink line and takes the other Modulink components, so if you have already standardized a building on Modulink covers and fittings, adding these boxes keeps one system across the floors. 5) Is the 880MP floor box big enough for a duplex receptacle and a couple of data jacks?
Capacity is 50 to 100 cubic inches on both the single gang 880MP and the two gang 880MP2, which is generous for a floor box. Volume is rarely the constraint here; gang count is. One duplex plus data means you want the two gang 880MP2 so the low voltage gets its own gang, even though the cubic inch rating on the single gang would technically hold the fill.
6) What color is the Wiremold 880MP floor box and will it show in my finished floor?
The box body is black, and it is buried, so the color of the box is not what you see. What shows in the floor is the cover and flange you specify on top of it. The black PVC body matters more for the fact that it will not rust-stain the surrounding slab or carpet the way a corroded steel box can.
