Metallics QB34 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Metallics QB34 a spade bit or an auger bit?
It is a flat bit, the style commonly called a spade or paddle bit, not a self-feeding auger. Flat bits like the QB34 clear fast in soft wood framing and are cheap enough to treat as consumable on rough-in work. If you are boring long runs through engineered lumber or need the bit to pull itself into the cut, a self-feed auger is the better tool for that job.
2) Can I use the Metallics QB34 wood bit to bore through metal studs?
No. It is a wood bit, ground for soft framing lumber, and it will roll its edge over on steel. For metal stud framing use a step bit or a hole saw rated for sheet steel, or knock out the factory prepunched service holes.
3) How many bits come in the Metallics QB34 pack?
One bit, supplied in a pouch. If you are boring a whole floor of framing for a wire pull, order by the count of holes you expect, electricians normally keep spares on the truck since flat bits dull quickly once they hit a nail or a plate.
