Red Dot B13010GS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Red Dot B13010GS weatherproof box be used outdoors in a wet location?
Yes. The B13010GS is a Dry-tite aluminum box, and Dry-tite boxes and covers are built to protect wiring devices, switches, electronic components and terminal blocks in dry, damp and wet locations. Pair it with the appropriate Dry-tite cover for the device you are mounting, since the box ships without one.
2) How many conduit hubs does the Red Dot B13010GS one gang box have, and where are they?
It is a three hole single gang box, so you get three threaded hub openings for feeding conduit through the box. That lets you bring a feed in and carry two runs out, or run through and drop one branch, without adding a second box.
3) What is the cubic inch volume of the Red Dot B13010GS box for conductor fill calculations?
The box is 19 cubic inches. Use that figure when you run your box fill count for the conductors, device and grounds going into it.
4) Will the Red Dot B13010GS hold up in a coastal or corrosive environment?
Corrosion resistance is the point of the build: alloy A380 aluminum body with certified zinc alloy hardware and stainless steel springs. That combination is what gets specified for exterior and washdown areas where plated steel boxes rust out.
5) Does the Red Dot B13010GS come with a cover and a device?
No. It is the box only, a single gang three hole aluminum enclosure. The wiring device (receptacle or switch) and the weatherproof cover or lid are separate purchases, so plan on ordering both to finish the opening.
6) Is the Red Dot B13010GS sold individually or only in a case?
It is sold each, even though it comes in OEM bulk pack packaging. Order the quantity you need for the job rather than a full carton.
7) What color is the Red Dot B13010GS box, and will it match existing Red Dot boxes on a building?
Grey, which is the standard Dry-tite finish, so it blends with other grey Red Dot boxes and covers already on a facade or equipment pad. The part number to specify for a match is B13010GS.
