Sta-Kon RC6-EU – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RC6-EU yellow ring terminal take?
The RC6-EU is sized for 4 to 6 mm2 conductor, which is roughly 12 to 10 AWG. The yellow insulation is the standard color code for that range, so if the rest of your terminals follow the same code you can match them on sight instead of checking each barrel.
2) Is the RC6-EU barrel copper or aluminum?
Electrolytic copper barrel. That means it is intended for copper conductor, not aluminum, and it will take solder or a standard copper-terminal crimp die. Do not use it to terminate aluminum wire without a dedicated bimetallic lug.
3) What is the difference between a polycarbonate insulated ring terminal and a nylon or vinyl one?
The RC6-EU uses a polycarbonate insulating sleeve rather than vinyl. Polycarbonate is the harder, higher-temperature choice of the three and resists cracking when the terminal is flexed or pulled in a panel, which is why it gets specified in control cabinets and machine wiring. Vinyl is the softer, lower-cost option and is generally held to lower temperature duty.
4) Should I use a ring terminal or a fork terminal on my terminal block studs?
A ring terminal like the RC6-EU has a closed tongue, so it cannot vibrate off a stud if the nut backs off slightly. A fork or spade terminal slides out from under a loosened screw, but it lets you drop the wire in without pulling the nut all the way off. For vibration-prone equipment, motors, or anything on a panel that gets inspected rarely, the closed ring is the one to specify.
5) Is the Sta-Kon RC6-EU a solderless crimp terminal?
It is a crimp-style insulated ring terminal with an electrolytic copper barrel. You strip to the barrel length, seat the conductor, and crimp with a die matched to the insulated-terminal size the color code indicates (yellow, 4-6 mm2). No heat is needed.
6) Can I order the RC6-EU by part number for a repeat job?
Yes. The manufacturer part number is RC6-EU, a Sta-Kon yellow polycarbonate insulated ring terminal for 4-6 mm2 copper wire. It is a single-model item, so there is no finish or size option to specify alongside it.
7) Where is the Sta-Kon RC6-EU terminal made?
Country of origin is Sweden. That matters on jobs with sourcing documentation requirements, so it is worth capturing on the submittal along with the RC6-EU part number.
