1) Will the Zero 655 saddle threshold cover a pair of doors, or just a single opening?
Two lengths cover both cases. The 36 inch length suits a single 3-0 leaf, and the 72 inch length spans a pair of 3-0 leaves (36 plus 36). Both lengths come in either anodized finish, so a pair opening and the single doors around it can run the same profile at 5 inches wide by 1/2 inch high.
2) Is the Zero 655 threshold low enough for an ADA accessible entrance?
Half an inch high, which is the ceiling ADA allows for a change in level at a doorway, and Zero rates the 655 as ADA compliant. Nothing else has to be built up or ramped at the opening as long as the finish floor on both sides comes up to the threshold.
3) Can the Zero 655 threshold go under a fire rated door?
Fire rated, yes. The 655 saddle threshold is a fire rated unit and carries the ANSI J32100 and J32130 designations, so it can sit in a rated opening alongside the rest of the rated assembly. It is a commercial threshold, not a residential one.
4) Can I order the Pemko 61 instead of the Zero 655?
They are not the same part. The Zero 655 is a saddle threshold, 5 inches wide by 1/2 inch high, extruded from 6063 aluminum at T5 or T6 hardness with claw grip edges, and it sets flat in the opening as the surface the door closes against and traffic walks over. The Pemko 61 Series is an interlocking J hook threshold accessory in steel construction, 36 inches, which is the hooked piece that mates with an interlocking door bottom rather than a flat saddle. If the opening needs a walking surface across the sill, the 655 is the piece that does that job; the 61 covers the hook connection instead.
5) My old threshold worked loose from the concrete slab. Will the Zero 655 hold anchors better?
That is what the heavy gauge is for. The 655 is extruded from 6063 aluminum at T5 or T6 hardness and is thick enough to drill and screw straight into concrete, without the buckling under load or loosening screws that thinner commercial stock gives you. The claw grip edges run along the underside edges and key into the bedding material, which keeps the extrusion from rocking on an uneven slab.
6) Does the door need to be undercut to clear a Zero 655 threshold?
Plan on it. The 655 stands 1/2 inch above the floor, so the bottom of the door has to clear that half inch plus whatever door bottom or sweep you are hanging on it. On a retrofit where the old threshold was flatter, the door may drag until the bottom rail is trimmed or the door is rehung slightly higher.
7) Will a 5 inch wide threshold cover the footprint the old one left behind?
Five inches of coverage is what you get with the 655, running across the floor line under the door. If the unit you are pulling out was wider than 5 inches, the extra scar in the slab or tile will sit exposed on one side and needs patching or a wider unit. Narrower than 5 inches and the 655 covers it with room to spare, and there is enough material to place your anchors clear of the old holes.
8) Which finish of the Zero 655 threshold should I order to match my storefront doors?
Clear anodized aluminum matches mill finish aluminum storefront and the usual aluminum door frames. Black anodized goes with dark bronze or black anodized storefront and glass entrances. Both finishes are stocked in 36 inch and 72 inch, so you can standardize one finish across single and pair openings in the same building.
9) Aluminum or steel at the sill - how do the Zero 655 and the Pemko 61 differ on material?
