1) Will a surface mounted door sweep interfere with the door swinging over carpet or a threshold?
It can, and that is the one thing to check before ordering. A surface mounted sweep hangs the neoprene blade below the door bottom, so the blade has to clear whatever the door passes over. Over a flat threshold or hard floor it seals correctly. Over carpet, a raised saddle, or an uneven slab, the blade drags and eventually tears, and you want a brush sweep or an automatic door bottom instead. Measure your undercut gap and the height of anything the door sweeps across.
2) Does a solid neoprene door sweep work better than a brush sweep on an exterior door?
For weather, yes. A solid neoprene blade compresses against the threshold or sill and physically closes the gap, so it stops driving rain, air infiltration, and dust in a way a nylon brush cannot. Brush sweeps are for uneven or carpeted floors where a solid blade would drag or bind. Pick the neoprene where you have a flat threshold and you are chasing drafts, HVAC loss, or sound bleed under the door; pick a brush where the floor surface is irregular.
3) Can this door sweep be installed on a hollow metal door, or only on wood?
Both. The aluminum carrier surface mounts to the face of the door bottom and works on wood, hollow metal, and composite leaves. On hollow metal you are drilling and fastening into the door skin, so use the pre-drilled holes as your template and fasten into the stiffener or edge channel where you can reach it. On wood it is a straight screw-through.
4) Do I need to buy screws separately for a Zero International door sweep?
