Red Dot B1501SGL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Red Dot B1501SGL weatherproof box be used outdoors in a wet location?
Yes. The B1501SGL is a Dry-Tite type weatherproof box, rated for use in dry, damp and wet locations to protect wiring devices, switches, electronic components and terminal blocks. Pair it with the appropriate Dry-Tite weatherproof cover and gasket for the device you are installing.
2) Will a GFCI receptacle fit in a 17.3 cubic inch weatherproof box?
The B1501SGL gives you 17.3 cubic inches of volume in a single gang, which is enough room for a standard GFCI device plus the conductors a typical branch circuit brings in. Deep-bodied devices with several conductors and pigtails get tight, so count your conductors against box fill before you commit.
3) Is the Red Dot B1501SGL box metal or plastic, and will it corrode near the coast?
It is cast aluminum, alloy A380, with certified zinc alloy hardware and stainless steel springs for added corrosion resistance. That combination holds up better than plated steel in damp and salt-air exposure, and the finish is silver.
4) Is the Red Dot B1501SGL sold individually or by the case?
It is priced and sold each, though the B1501SGL is packaged by the manufacturer in 16-piece cartons. That makes it practical for property managers and MRO buyers standardizing outdoor receptacle boxes across a site.
