Blackburn ATL102 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Blackburn ATL102 compression lug take?
The ATL102 is sized for 1/0 AWG conductor. It's a compression (crimp) lug, so the barrel is die-crimped onto the cable rather than torqued down on a setscrew. Using it on anything other than 1/0 will give you a crimp that doesn't hold.
2) Will this lug bolt to a 1/2 inch stud on my panel or bus bar?
Yes. The ATL102 pad is drilled for 1/2 inch hardware, and it's a two-hole pad, so you get two 1/2 inch bolts into the bus or ground bar. Two-hole pads resist rotation under fault current, which is why they're specified for grounding and service terminations over single-hole lugs.
3) Can I use an aluminum compression lug on copper conductor?
The ATL102 is an aluminum-bodied lug. Aluminum-only compression lugs are made for aluminum conductor; if you're terminating copper, ask for a dual-rated AL/CU lug or a copper (tin-plated copper) compression lug in 1/0. Check the barrel marking on the lug against your conductor before you crimp.
4) Is the Blackburn ATL102 UL listed?
It carries UL file E9809. That's the listing reference inspectors look for on a service or grounding termination, and it's marked to the lug's file rather than to a separate certificate.
5) Should I use a compression lug or a mechanical setscrew lug for a 1/0 aluminum feeder?
A compression lug like the ATL102 is crimped once with a matched die and never needs re-torquing, which is why it's favored for grounding electrodes, bonding jumpers and permanent feeder terminations. A mechanical setscrew lug is the choice when you need to make the termination with hand tools only or may have to reopen it later, since it requires no crimp tool but does need torque verification.
6) Where is the Blackburn ATL102 lug made?
Mexico. That matters on public work where country of origin has to be documented for a Buy American or trade-agreement submittal.
