Watts 121443 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Watts LF53L 0121443 a T&P valve or pressure-only relief?
Pressure only. The LF53L 0121443 is a poppet type relief valve set at 150 psi, with no thermostat probe, so it protects against overpressure and will not respond to water temperature. If your water heater tag calls for a combination temperature and pressure relief valve, this is not the right part and you need a T&P valve with a thermostat probe instead. The LF53L is the one to use where a separate pressure-only relief is required, such as on a thermal expansion or storage application.
2) What size and thread connections does the Watts 0121443 relief valve have?
Inlet is 1/2 inch male NPT and the outlet is 1/2 inch female NPT. That means it threads straight into a 1/2 inch female tapping on the tank or line, and the discharge side takes a 1/2 inch male NPT nipple for your drain line down to within a few inches of the floor.
3) Is the Watts LF53L lead free for potable water?
The body is a lead free copper silicon alloy, so it is intended for potable water service. It also carries a UL Listing.
4) What temperature can the Watts 0121443 relief valve handle?
Rated to a maximum of 210 degrees F. That covers normal domestic hot water service, but the valve does not open on temperature, only on pressure at its 150 psi setting.
5) Can I get the Watts LF53L at a lower relief setting than 150 psi?
The 0121443 is factory set at 150 psi and the setting is not field adjustable. The LF53L series is built across a 75 to 150 psi range, so if your system needs a lower relief point, order the LF53L at that setting rather than trying to change this one.
