Metallics WAKJ14R – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size hole do I drill for the Metallics WAKJ14R red wall anchor?
The WAKJ14R is a 1/4 inch light duty wall anchor, so the anchor body is sized for a 1/4 inch hole in the wall board. Drill clean, tap the anchor flush, then drive the included screw to expand it behind the surface.
2) Do the Metallics WAKJ14R anchors come with screws, or do I buy those separately?
Screws are included. Each jar of WAKJ14R red anchors ships with matching #10 x 1 inch pan head square drive screws, so you are not sourcing fasteners separately for the job.
3) Is a 1/4 inch red plastic wall anchor strong enough for what I am hanging?
The WAKJ14R is a light duty anchor. It suits low-load work in drywall: device plates, low voltage brackets, conduit straps, signage, small raceway. For anything carrying real weight or subject to pull-out, such as grab bars, cabinets or heavy fixtures, use a toggle or a hollow wall anchor instead and fasten into framing where you can.
4) What driver bit do I need for the screws in the Metallics WAKJ14R anchor kit?
A square drive (Robertson) bit. The supplied #10 x 1 inch pan head screws are square drive, not Phillips, which is why they hold the bit without cam-out when you are setting anchors overhead or on a ladder.
5) Will the #10 x 1 inch screw in the Metallics WAKJ14R kit be long enough through a device plate or strap?
One inch of screw covers the thickness of a typical plate, strap or bracket plus full engagement into the 1/4 inch anchor body. If you are fastening through something thicker, such as a spacer or a stacked bracket, you will need a longer #10 screw, since the shorter supplied screw may not reach far enough into the anchor to expand it properly.
6) Why buy wall anchors in a jar instead of a carded pack?
The jar format is the bulk option. Electrical and maintenance crews going door to door on device plates, straps and brackets burn through anchors fast, and the WAKJ14R jar keeps anchors and the matching #10 x 1 screws together in one container on the truck or the shop shelf.
7) What is the exact part number for the Metallics 1/4 inch red anchor jar?
Metallics part number WAKJ14R. That covers the 1/4 inch light duty red wall anchor jar supplied with #10 x 1 inch pan head square drive screws.
