Metallics TEKD105M 14 x 1 in. 3/8 Indented Hex Head Self-Drilling & Tapping Screws with Washer - #3 Drill Point - Steel Zinc - Each

A 3/8 inch hex driver. The TEKD105M has an indented hex washer head measuring 0.367 to 0.375 inch across the flats, 0.409 inch across the corners, with a head height of 0.172 to 0.19 inch. A standard 3/8 inch magnetic nutsetter in a screw gun drives it.

No pilot hole. The TEKD105M is a Type BSD self-drilling and tapping screw with a #3 drill point, so it drills and forms its own thread in one pass. Metallics rates drill time at 2.5 seconds through a 1 mm thick plate. The #3 point is the heavier of the common light-gauge points, so it suits thicker gauge steel than a #2 point would handle.

The TEKD105M is carbon steel with a zinc finish, which is a dry interior or protected coating. For exterior, coastal, or damp mechanical rooms, specify a stainless self-drilling screw instead. Metallics notes that minimum driving torques are the same for stainless and steel self-drill screws, so swapping to stainless does not change your drive setup.

The screw is 1 inch long overall, so total grip plus drilled material has to come in under that once the point and thread engagement are accounted for. In practice a 1 inch #14 TEK is sized for strut, hat channel, light structural steel and sheet assemblies, not for thick stacks. For deeper grip you need a longer length in the same JTEKD series.

It is an integral bonded washer under the indented hex head, not a loose piece to install. Washer outside diameter runs 0.480 to 0.520 inch with a thickness of 0.030 to 0.050 inch, which spreads load over sheet metal and keeps the head from pulling through thin gauge.

Threads conform to SAE J78 - 2013 and head dimensions to ASME B18.6.3-2010. The steel is AISI 1016 to 1024 case hardened to Rockwell C32-40. One caveat from Metallics: SAE J78 does not cover #7 diameter drill screws, so that size falls outside the thread standard.

The order minimum is 5,000 pieces, supplied as a box, so it is a bulk pack rather than a jobber card. The full box runs 70.5 lbs. Metallics does offer other sizes and quantities by request within the JTEKD line.

Metallics flags the TEKD105M as both ARRA compliant and Buy American compliant. Country of origin is listed as multiple, so if a project requires documented origin for a specific lot, that has to be confirmed against the shipping lot.

The carton measures 11.5 in long by 11.5 in wide by 10.75 in high and weighs 70.5 lbs, so plan on a single heavy box rather than something a tech carries up a ladder.
