Metallics MWRC161410 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Metallics MWRC161410 ring terminal accept?
The MWRC161410 is sized for #16 to #14 AWG stranded wire. If your conductor is #12 or larger, or smaller than #16, this barrel won't crimp correctly and you need a different gauge range terminal.
2) Ring terminal or fork terminal for a #10 terminal screw?
A ring terminal like the Metallics MWRC161410 is the choice where the connection is permanent and can't be allowed to back off the screw, since the closed tongue captures the stud. A fork or spade terminal slides out from under a loosened screw, which is faster for service work but will walk off under vibration. For motor leads, ground studs, and anything that gets bumped, use the ring.
3) Do I need a special tool to crimp the Metallics MWRC161410?
It's a crimp-style ring terminal, not a screw-down lug, so it needs a hand crimper matched to the #16-14 AWG barrel range. Pliers will not give a reliable mechanical or electrical connection on this size.
