Metallics MWRC18 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the MWRC18 wire rope clip galvanized for damp or outdoor use?
Yes, the MWRC18 is galvanized. The zinc coating is what makes it usable in damp interior spaces and typical outdoor runs rather than clean dry indoor only. For continuously wet or corrosive environments, stainless clips are the usual step up.
2) What is a wire rope clip used for on an electrical job?
A wire rope clip forms a loop or termination in cable, which on electrical work usually means making up the eye on an aerial support or messenger wire, trapeze hangers, or seismic and sway bracing cable used to support raceway and fixtures. The MWRC18 covers that work in 1/8 inch cable. Clips are used in sets, with the saddle on the live side of the rope and the U-bolt on the dead end.
3) Does a Metallics MWRC18 clip come as a complete assembly or do I need to buy nuts separately?
Each MWRC18 is the complete clip, saddle, U-bolt, and nuts together, so nothing further is needed to make up a termination. Plan on more than one per termination, since a single clip is not a finished cable eye.
