Blackburn FBS1H055A1-12 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How long is the Blackburn FBS1H055A1-12 jumper braid?
The FBS1H055A1-12 braid is 12 inches long (304.8 mm). That length is the usable span between terminations, so measure your bond path, across a meter socket, a water meter, an expansion coupling, across a hinge or door on a raceway, and allow slack for movement before you settle on 12 inches.
2) Is the Blackburn FBS1H055A1-12 braid insulated or bare?
It is a bare braid, not insulated. That is normal for a bonding jumper, the conductor is meant to be exposed for inspection, but it means you need to keep it clear of energized parts and sharp edges, and it should not be run where an insulated conductor is called for.
3) Why use a flexible braid instead of a solid or stranded bonding jumper?
Braid is the choice anywhere the two bonded points move relative to each other, expansion fittings, vibrating equipment, hinged panels and doors, isolated gutter sections. A solid or stranded copper jumper work-hardens and eventually cracks under repeated flex. Where both ends are rigid and static, a plain bonding conductor with lugs is the simpler, cheaper way to go. The FBS1H055A1-12 is the flexible braid version.
4) Is the Blackburn FBS1H055A1-12 braid made in the USA, and does it meet a recognized standard?
Country of origin is the United States, and the braid is built to NEMA. Both matter on public work, domestic-content specs on federal, state and school projects usually want the origin documented, and institutional specs frequently call for NEMA-conforming grounding and bonding hardware.
5) What exact part number should I put on a purchase order for this Blackburn jumper braid?
Order Blackburn FBS1H055A1-12. That is the manufacturer part number for the 12 inch flexible bonding braid, one per each. Blackburn numbers the family by length, so a different length is a different suffix, do not assume a substitution is the same assembly.
6) Does the Blackburn FBS1H055A1-12 come as a single piece or in a multi-pack?
It sells as one piece, each. If you are bonding a run of expansion couplings or a bank of enclosures, count the crossings and order one braid per crossing.
