Blackburn FBE1H035A1-30 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Blackburn FBE1H035A1-30 braid insulated?
No, it is a non-insulated braid. For bonding across expansion joints, cable tray sections, or equipment frames in a dry enclosure that's normal practice, but if the braid could contact live parts or a dissimilar bonded surface you don't want shorted together, you need a jacketed bonding jumper instead.
2) What is an extra-flexible jumper braid used for on a grounding system?
An extra-flexible braid like the FBE1H035A1-30 is a bonding jumper for places where the two bonded points move relative to each other, or where a solid conductor can't take the flexing: cable tray sections, expansion joints, hinged doors on switchgear and enclosures, vibrating equipment frames. The flat braid construction bends repeatedly without work-hardening the way a solid bonding strap does. It's a grounding and bonding device, not a current-carrying circuit conductor.
3) Does the Blackburn FBE1H035A1-30 come with terminals already attached, or do I crimp my own?
It ships as a finished assembly with the terminations already on both ends, sold one per unit of measure. You bolt it in place, so no crimp tooling or die sets are needed on site. Confirm your hardware size matches the terminal hole before you order the bolts.
4) Does this Blackburn bonding braid meet a recognized standard for a spec job?
The FBE1H035A1-30 is built to NEMA standards, and it's made in the United States, which covers the domestic-origin line item that shows up on a lot of federal, utility, and institutional specs. Those are the two compliance facts on record for it.
5) What is the Blackburn part number I should order for a 30 inch flexible bonding braid?
Order Blackburn FBE1H035A1-30. That's the manufacturer part number for the 30 inch extra-flexible jumper braid assembly, priced and sold each.
6) Can I cut a Blackburn FBE jumper braid down to length in the field?
No. It's a factory-terminated assembly, so cutting it removes one of the terminals and there is no field crimp provided to replace it. Pick the braid length that reaches, and route the extra as a gentle loop rather than trimming it.
