Thomas & Betts AC-7 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Thomas & Betts AC-7 conduit body made of?
Die cast aluminum. That keeps the weight down on a 2-1/2 inch body compared with a malleable iron equivalent, and it is the usual choice where aluminum conduit or aluminum fittings are already specified on the run. Where dissimilar-metal contact is a concern on a corrosive site, that material choice is worth checking against the spec.
2) Does the AC-7 conduit body come with a cover and gasket?
The AC-7 is the body itself, ordered under part number AC-7. Covers and gaskets for Series A bodies are separate items, so if the opening needs to be closed up, order the matching 2-1/2 inch cover and gasket alongside it.
3) What is a conduit body like the AC-7 used for on a run?
It gives you a pull point and a direction change in a 2-1/2 inch threaded rigid or IMC run without opening up a full junction box. Remove the cover and you have access to pull or splice conductors, then close it back up. On a 2-1/2 inch run, having a body at the turns is often what makes the pull practical at all.
