1) How does the Watts LF777SI 2 inch Y-strainer connect to pipe, and do I need adapters?
Both ends are 2 inch (50 mm) female NPT threaded, so it threads directly onto 2 inch male NPT nipples or male-adapter transitions. No flanges, bolts or grooved couplings are involved on this one, so if your line is flanged or grooved you'll need a transition to threaded pipe first.
2) What pressure and temperature can this 2 inch bronze wye strainer handle?
Rated 400 PSI WOG at 210 degrees F, and 125 PSI WSP for steam service at 353 degrees F. In metric that's 27.6 bar. The NBR gasket is the soft part to keep in mind when you're picking a service fluid.
3) Can I add a blowdown valve to this Watts strainer without pulling it out of the line?
Yes. The retainer cap comes tapped with a brass closure plug already installed, and the blowdown port is 1 inch (25 mm) female threaded. Pull the plug and thread in a 1 inch NPT ball valve or blowoff valve and you can flush the screen without breaking the union joints.
4) Is the Watts 0379116 strainer lead free for potable water?
The retainer cover is lead free cast copper silicon alloy and the body is brass, part of the Watts LF777SI series. The LF designation on the series is the lead free line. There is no epoxy coating on the body.
5) Can I use this Watts wye strainer on a fire sprinkler line?
No. The 0379116 is not UL listed and is not approved for fireline service. For sprinkler and fire pump work you need a strainer carrying the UL/FM listing for that duty.
6) Is the 20 mesh screen fine enough to protect a pump or control valve?
The screen is 20 mesh stainless steel, which catches scale, weld slag, pipe chips and grit. That's the usual protection level ahead of pumps, control valves, meters and heat exchangers. If you're protecting something needing finer filtration, like a small orifice spray nozzle or an atomizing device, 20 mesh will pass particles a finer screen would hold.
7) Does a wye strainer have to be installed a certain way around?
Yes, direction and orientation both matter. Flow has to enter the 2 inch inlet and leave the 2 inch outlet as marked, so the screen pocket catches debris rather than packing it backward. Mount the strainer so the screen leg points down on horizontal lines, or sideways where headroom under the pipe is tight, so the 1 inch blowdown port stays reachable for flushing.
