Viega 25141 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What kind of connection does the Viega 25141 MegaPressG adapter have on each end?
The Viega 25141 MegaPressG adapter is a P x FPT fitting: one 1 inch press end that crimps onto 1 inch carbon steel pipe, and one 1 inch female NPT thread for a threaded component. It is the transition you use when you need to bring a pressed gas line into a threaded valve, drip leg, regulator, or appliance connector.
2) Can I use the Viega 25141 MegaPressG fitting on copper or stainless pipe?
No. The 25141 is a carbon steel MegaPressG fitting, sized for 1 inch carbon steel pipe. Press fittings are material specific, so for copper or stainless you need the press system made for that material, not a MegaPressG body.
3) What is Smart Connect on the MegaPressG 25141 and why does it matter on a gas line?
Smart Connect is a feature of the MegaPressG sealing element that intentionally leaks slightly at an unpressed connection during pressure testing, so an installer finds the joint that was missed before the system is put into service. On a fuel gas run that is the difference between catching a skipped crimp at test and discovering it later.
4) How much space do I need around a 1 inch MegaPressG adapter to get the press tool on it?
The fitting itself measures 2.736 inches long and 1.78 inches in both height and width. Plan clearance beyond that for the jaw or press ring, since the tool body needs to sit square on the press end. In tight joist bays or against a wall, measure the jaw footprint rather than the fitting.
5) Is the Viega 25141 a tee or an adapter?
It is a two-end adapter, 1 inch press to 1 inch female thread. There is no branch outlet on it, so if you need to take a run off in a third direction you want a MegaPressG tee instead.
6) Will a carbon steel press adapter rust on an exposed gas line?
The 25141 body is carbon steel, the same material as the black iron pipe it presses onto, so it behaves the same way. Indoors and dry it is fine as-is. Outdoors or in a damp mechanical space, coat it the way you would the rest of the steel run.
