Viega 25225 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size pipe does the Viega MegaPress 25225 elbow fit?
The 25225 is a 2 inch by 2 inch 90 degree elbow, press on both ends, so it joins two runs of 2 inch carbon steel pipe. Both outlets are press connections (P1 x P2), not threaded and not grooved.
2) Can I press this Viega elbow onto black iron pipe, or does it need copper?
MegaPress fittings like the 25225 are carbon steel and are made for black iron / carbon steel pipe systems, not copper. The fitting body is carbon steel throughout.
3) Is the Viega 25225 a press fitting or do I have to thread or weld it?
It is a press fitting on both ends. No threading, no welding, no open flame: the 2 inch outlets are pressed onto the pipe with a press tool and the matching 2 inch MegaPress jaw or ring. That is the whole reason crews use it on occupied buildings where hot work permits are a problem.
4) How much room do I need to fit a 2 inch MegaPress 90 elbow in a tight chase?
Plan around a fitting that measures 6.213 inches by 6.213 inches by 2.894 inches. On top of that you need clearance for the press jaw or ring and actuator to get square on each outlet, which is usually the limiting factor in a chase rather than the fitting itself.
5) What does Smart Connect on a MegaPress fitting actually do for me on the job?
Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-connection feature: an unpressed joint will leak noticeably during pressure testing, so a missed press shows up at test instead of after the walls are closed. It is built into the 25225 elbow sealing element.
6) What do I need to order with the Viega 25225 besides the elbow?
The elbow itself is just the fitting. You will need a press tool with a 2 inch MegaPress jaw or ring and actuator, since both ends are press connections, plus the 2 inch carbon steel pipe and whatever hangers the turn calls for. Confirm your press tool is approved for the 2 inch MegaPress profile before you get on site.
7) Is the Viega MegaPress 25225 made in the USA?
Yes, the 25225 carbon steel elbow is made in the USA, which matters on public and institutional jobs carrying domestic-sourcing requirements.
