Viega 28750 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What connection ends does the Viega 28750 MegaPressG adapter have?
The Viega 28750 MegaPressG adapter is a P x MPT fitting: one press end and one male pipe thread end. The press side is crimped onto the pipe with a MegaPress jaw and the threaded side screws into female-threaded pipe, a valve, or an appliance connection, so it is the transition point between pressed and threaded gas piping.
2) Is the Viega 28750 adapter steel or brass, and can I use it on black iron gas pipe?
Carbon steel body. That is what makes it suitable for black iron and other carbon steel gas piping, which is the system MegaPressG is built for. Do not mix it into copper or stainless runs; those call for the copper or stainless press lines instead.
3) What size pipe does the Viega 28750 fit?
It is a 4 inch by 4 inch fitting, so both the press end and the male thread end are sized for 4 inch pipe. Large diameter 4 inch press work needs the matching large-diameter press tool and jaw or ring, not a standard handheld compact tool.
4) What does Smart Connect mean on a MegaPressG fitting?
Smart Connect is the feature built into the 28750 adapter that lets an unpressed connection leak intentionally during pressure testing, so an installer finds a missed joint before the system goes into service rather than after. It does not replace pressing the joint with the correct jaw.
5) How much space do I need to fit the Viega 28750 adapter in a tight chase?
Rough it in for a body measuring 6.181 inches on its longest dimension, with the other two faces at 5.193 inches, and allow clearance around it for the press tool jaw. Shipping weight is 4.119 lbs, so it is a hand-held fitting but heavy enough to want the pipe supported while you press.
6) Do I need thread sealant on the MPT side of the Viega 28750?
The press side needs no sealant, it seals on the fitting's own sealing element when crimped. The MPT side is a conventional tapered male pipe thread and gets sealed the way any threaded gas joint does, with a gas-rated thread sealant or tape approved for the fuel being carried.
7) Where is the Viega 28750 made? I need country of origin for a government submittal.
Made in Germany, which is the figure to put on origin paperwork for the 28750 MegaPressG adapter. Order it by Viega part number 28750.
