1) Why does Temflex 2155 splicing tape have no adhesive on it?
It is a self-fusing rubber tape, listed as non-adhesive with a rubber backing. You stretch it as you wrap and the layers fuse into a single solid rubber mass over the splice. It will. Temflex 2155 has 700 percent elongation at break and 300 lb/in tensile strength, so you can stretch it hard over lugs, split bolts and connector edges to build up a smooth void-free layer without tearing. Standard practice is to stretch to roughly half its width while wrapping.
5) Is 3M Temflex 2155 UL Listed and RoHS compliant for a spec job?
Yes, it is UL Listed and compliant with RoHS 2011/65/EU. Useful where a submittal requires listed insulating materials on splices.
6) Can I use rubber splicing tape by itself, or do I need vinyl tape over it?
Overwrap it. The 2155 supplies the insulation and the moisture seal, but the rubber surface stays tacky and has no abrasion resistance built for handling, so a vinyl electrical tape jacket goes over the top on any splice that gets pulled into conduit or handled. The 600V rating applies to the rubber layer itself.
