Metallics CT1UV – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Metallics CT1UV cable tie rated for outdoor use?
Yes. The CT1UV is a weather resistant, UV stabilized black nylon tie, which is what you want for exposed runs, rooftop conduit, and outdoor fixture whips. Natural (white) nylon ties degrade in sunlight; the black UV compound is the one to use anywhere the tie sees daylight.
2) What length is the Metallics CT1UV tie?
It is a 4 inch cable tie, the short size used for bundling small groups of conductors, low voltage cable, and securing wire inside panels and junction boxes. For larger bundles or strapping to conduit you will want a longer tie.
3) Is this cable tie made in the USA?
Yes, the Metallics CT1UV is a USA made nylon tie. That matters on public works and federally funded jobs where domestic sourcing is written into the spec.
4) Should I use a black UV tie or a standard natural nylon tie indoors?
Indoors, in a panel or above a ceiling with no sunlight, standard natural nylon is fine. Use the black UV stabilized CT1UV wherever the tie is exposed to daylight or outdoor weather, or if you simply want one tie stocked for both conditions. UV ties work indoors as well, so standardizing on black is a common MRO move to avoid picking the wrong bag on a roof.
5) What part number do I order for the Metallics 4 inch black UV cable tie?
Order Metallics CT1UV. That is the single model covering the 4 inch weather resistant black UV nylon tie, so there is no finish or color choice to specify.
