Ty-Duct TYD4X4NPG6 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size is the Ty-Duct TYD4X4NPG6 wiring duct and how long is each stick?
It's a 4 x 4 inch narrow slot PVC wiring duct supplied in 6 foot (1.83 m) lengths. Model TYD4X4NPG6, sold by the foot, in gray.
2) Does the TYD4X4NPG6 duct have adhesive backing, or do I have to mechanically fasten it?
No adhesive backing on this one. The 4x4 narrow slot gray duct has to be mechanically mounted (screws or rivets through the base) to the panel or wall surface, so plan on fasteners as a separate line item.
3) What's the difference between narrow slot and wide slot wiring duct, and which should I use in a control panel?
Slot width controls how wires enter and exit the duct. The Ty-Duct TYD4X4NPG6 is a narrow slot entrance type, which keeps conductors captive better and gives a tidier look where you're breaking out small-gauge control wiring at fixed points. Wide slot duct is the better pick when you need to drop large bundles or heavier conductors in and out at many locations. For a typical control panel running small wire to terminal blocks, narrow slot is the usual choice.
4) Is the gray 4x4 Ty-Duct wiring duct made in the USA?
Yes. The TYD4X4NPG6 PVC wiring duct lists the United States as country of origin, which is what you need for Buy American or domestic-preference language on government and institutional jobs.
5) Will a 4x4 narrow slot duct match the gray duct already in my existing panels?
The Ty-Duct TYD4X4NPG6 is gray PVC, which is the standard color for panel wiring duct, so it will read the same as existing gray duct runs. Cover and base geometry is 4 x 4 inches, so if your existing duct is a different cross section the covers won't interchange even though the color matches.
6) How is the Ty-Duct 4x4 narrow slot duct priced and ordered, by the stick or by the foot?
Selling unit of measure is the foot, and the duct itself ships as 6 foot sticks. So a quantity figure reflects feet, not pieces, and each piece covers 6 feet of run.
7) Can I cut Ty-Duct 4x4 wiring duct to length on site?
Yes. It's a PVC extrusion in 6 foot lengths, so it cuts cleanly with a fine-tooth saw or a duct cutter and the base is drilled on site for your mounting screws, since there is no adhesive backing to preserve.
