The JTS42 is a Type A tapping screw, meaning it has a gimlet (sharp) point and a coarse 19 threads-per-inch thread that cuts its own thread as it drives into sheet metal. It is intended for the electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning trades, so typical work is fastening into light-gauge metal boxes, straps, duct and enclosures where there is no pre-tapped hole. The sharp point needs a pilot or a thin-gauge material it can start in; it is not a self-drilling screw, so it will not punch its own hole in heavy steel.
