Viega 84885 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is Smart Connect on the Viega 84885 and why does it matter on an inspection?
Smart Connect is a deliberate feature in the sealing element that lets fluid weep past an unpressed connection during pressure testing. On a riser full of 90s, that is how you find the joint someone missed before the wall closes up. The 84885 90 degree street elbow carries it.
2) How much room does the Viega 84885 1 inch street elbow take up in a tight chase?
Published dimensions are 4.276 inches length, 3.728 inches width and 1.78 inches height, and it weighs 0.831 lbs. Those are the fitting's own envelope, so budget for that plus press tool jaw clearance around the socket end when you are routing through joists or a narrow chase.
3) Is the Viega 84885 made in the USA for a Buy American spec?
The 84885 MegaPress street elbow is listed as Made in USA. If your project carries a domestic sourcing requirement, that is the country of origin on record for this fitting. Part number for submittals is Viega 84885.
