Viega 90050 MegaPress 90° street elbow Smart Connect technology 316 stainless steel, 2'' x 2''

It is 316 stainless steel, body and all. That is the corrosion-resistant grade, so it suits wet, washdown, coastal or chemically aggressive environments where a carbon steel press fitting would need coating or would not be accepted.

Smart Connect is Viega's feature that intentionally leaks at a pressure-tested unpressed connection, so an installer or inspector can spot a joint that was assembled but never pressed. On a 2 inch line buried in a mechanical room that is the difference between finding the miss at test and finding it after the ceiling closes.

The fitting itself measures 6.528 x 6.016 x 2.894 inches, so plan your takeout around that envelope and add room for the press jaw to swing a full circle around the socket. In tight joist bays or against a wall, the street end helps because it removes one joint and one nipple from the assembly.

Use the street configuration when you need to come off the outlet of another fitting, a valve socket or another elbow, and change direction right there. A standard P x P elbow needs a cut length of pipe between the two fittings; the 90050's FTG end inserts directly, saving a joint, a press cycle and roughly a pipe diameter of space. Use a regular 90 when you are joining two runs of pipe.

The elbow ships as the fitting only. You still need a press tool with the correct 2 inch MegaPress jaw or ring, and the pipe ends cut square, deburred and marked for insertion depth. No sealant, solder or thread compound is used, the seal is in the fitting.
