Viega 90260 MegaPress adapter Smart Connect technology 316 stainless steel, 1/2'' x 1/2''

One end is a MegaPress press socket (P) that goes onto 1/2 inch pipe and gets crimped with a press tool and the matching jaw; the other end is 1/2 inch female pipe thread (FPT) that takes a male-threaded nipple, valve, or gauge. So it's the transition fitting between a pressed line and threaded equipment, no welding or cutting threads on site.

It's a two-end adapter, 1/2 inch press to 1/2 inch female thread. If you need to branch a line you want a MegaPress stainless tee instead, not this part.

The 90260 adapter body is 316 stainless steel, the grade specified where chlorides and washdown would pit standard carbon steel or 304. That makes it the choice for coastal, food-process, and chemically aggressive environments. Keep in mind it's intended for stainless pipe systems; mixing it directly with carbon steel pipe sets up dissimilar-metal contact.

Smart Connect is Viega's feature that deliberately leaks at an unpressed connection, so when you fill and pressurize the system a fitting you missed shows itself instead of passing test and failing later in a ceiling. On a job with dozens of 1/2 inch press joints, that is the difference between finding the miss at test and finding it after drywall.

Overall it runs 2.311 inches long with a 1.264 inch height and width, and it weighs 0.229 lbs. Plan clearance beyond that for the press tool jaw to get square on the socket, which is usually the real constraint in a chase or against a wall, not the fitting itself.

That's the point of it. Pressing the socket end makes a mechanical joint in seconds, which avoids hot work permits and fire watch that welding stainless would require, and avoids cutting threads on stainless pipe. The threaded half still lets you land on valves and instruments that only come male NPT.

Germany. For spec-driven and government work where country of origin has to be documented on the submittal, that is the value to put down for this adapter.
