Viega 90520 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does P x FTG mean on the Viega 90520 street elbow?
P x FTG means one end is a press socket and the other is a fitting (street) end sized to slip into another press socket. On the Viega MegaPress 90520, that lets you turn a corner without adding a separate coupling, which is why it is called a street elbow. Both ends are 3 inch.
2) Is the Viega MegaPress 90520 elbow suitable for black iron pipe, or is it only for stainless lines?
MegaPress fittings press onto carbon steel pipe, and the 90520 body itself is 316 stainless steel. The stainless body is the wetted fitting material, so it stands up better in corrosive or wet service than a carbon steel fitting would. The 316 designation is the higher-alloy, more corrosion-resistant of the common austenitic grades.
3) What is Smart Connect and does it change how I install this elbow?
Smart Connect is a feature of the sealing element that lets an unpressed connection leak visibly during pressure testing, so you can find a joint you missed before the system is put in service. It does not change the installation steps for the 90520 street elbow, but it does mean a pressure test is the way you verify every press was actually made.
