Viega 95460 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the Viega MegaPress 95460 stainless flange fit?
The Viega 95460 MegaPress flange is a 2 inch fitting, built in 304 stainless steel. It presses onto 2 inch pipe on the press side and bolts to a mating flange on the other, so your pipe run and your flanged equipment both need to be at 2 inch.
2) Is the Viega 95460 MegaPress fitting stainless or carbon steel?
It is 304 stainless steel, not carbon. That matters when you are tying into a stainless system or an environment where a carbon steel MegaPress body would corrode. Mixing a carbon fitting into a stainless run is the usual mistake here.
3) Do I need a gasket and bolts to install the Viega 95460 MegaPress flange?
The 95460 is the flange adapter only. The flange gasket, bolts, nuts and washers for the bolted joint are separate, sized to the mating flange's bolt pattern and rating. The press end needs a MegaPress-approved press tool and the correct 2 inch jaw.
4) Does the Viega 95460 press fitting have the Smart Connect feature, and what does it do?
Yes. Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-connection indicator: an unpressed fitting leaks visibly during pressure testing so the installer can find it before the system is put into service. On a 2 inch stainless flange tucked behind equipment, that is the difference between finding a missed press at test and finding it after startup.
5) How much room do I need around a 2 inch MegaPress stainless flange?
Plan on a 6.142 x 6.142 x 3.606 inch envelope for the fitting body itself, plus clearance for the press tool jaw to swing around the press end. The flange face also needs bolt access, so keep it off the wall and off adjacent pipe.
6) Is this flange a press connection on one end?
Yes, the 95460 is a press-type connection fitting, so the pipe side goes on cold with a press tool, no threading, welding or flame. That is why crews use it for stainless tie-ins in occupied buildings where a hot work permit is a problem.
7) How heavy is the Viega 2 inch MegaPress stainless flange for hanger and support planning?
It weighs 5.03 lbs. Worth accounting for when the flange sits at the end of a cantilevered stainless run or at a pump connection, since the bolted joint should not be carrying pipe weight.
