The Viega 98380 is a 3 inch by 3 inch press coupling, so both ends press onto 3 inch pipe. Both ends are press connections (P1 x P2), meaning no threading, grooving or welding on either side.

A coupling with stop has an internal shoulder that limits how far the pipe can enter each socket, so the pipe bottoms out at the correct insertion depth on both sides. That fixes the center point of the joint. If you need a coupling that can slide along the pipe, for example to repair a cut section in a run you cannot pull apart, you want a coupling without stop instead, not this one.
