Viega 90665 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size pipe does the Viega MegaPress 90665 coupling press onto?
The 90665 is a 3 inch by 3 inch press coupling, so it joins two lengths of 3 inch pipe in line. Both ends are press connections (P1 x P2), meaning no threading, no welding, and no soldering at either end. If you need to transition sizes or thread into existing fittings, this is not the part, it is a straight same-size coupling.
2) Is the Viega 90665 a no-stop coupling, and why does that matter on a repair?
Yes, it is a no-stop coupling, which means there is no internal pipe stop at the center. That lets you slide the whole fitting along one pipe and position it over a cut or damaged section, then press both ends. It is what you want for a repair in an existing run you cannot pull apart. A coupling with a stop can only be butted up to the pipe end, so it is for new work where you control the pipe ends.
3) What does Smart Connect technology do on this Viega press fitting?
Smart Connect is a deliberate feature in the sealing element of the 90665 that leaks a small amount under pressure test if the joint has not been pressed. On a 3 inch line with dozens of joints, that is how an inspector or foreman finds the one connection that got missed before the wall closes up.
