1) Can the Altronix SMP3PM run 12V and 24V locks, or do I pick one?
It is a selectable 12/24VDC supply, so the same board covers either system voltage, but you commit to one at install. The transformer you pair it with follows that choice: TP1640 or T2428100 on 12VDC, T2428100 on 24VDC. Mixing 12V and 24V devices off one SMP3PM is not how it works.
2) How many electric strikes or maglocks will a 2.5A Altronix power supply board carry?
The SMP3PM is rated 2.5A output, so add up the holding current of every device on the circuit and stay under that. A typical pair of maglocks or two to three continuous-duty strikes is the realistic ceiling once you leave headroom. If your door count pushes past 2.5A, step up to a larger Altronix supply rather than loading this board to its limit.
3) Is the Altronix SMP3PM a board only, or does it come in an enclosure?
SMP3PM is the supply board itself, not a boxed unit. If you are replacing a failed board inside an existing Altronix can, this is the part you want. If you are starting from scratch at a new opening, you will need an enclosure and the matching transformer as well.
4) What does the supervised part of the Altronix SMP3PM mean for a fire or access install?
Supervised means the board monitors its own power and battery condition and reports a fault rather than failing silently, which is what an access control head end or fire panel needs to see. It is a commercial-duty board, not a residential plug-in supply.
5) Which of these boards is the one that converts line voltage?
Only the Altronix SMP3PM. It takes a 120V input and produces a supervised 12/24VDC output at 2.5A for commercial access control devices. The Command Access DS1+, DS1-X and VD2-873 are relay, sequencing and control boards that work on low-voltage DC or inside an existing supply chassis - the VD2-873 is specific to the Von Duprin PS873 power supply. If line voltage has to be converted, the SMP3PM is the board doing it.
6) What input voltage does the Altronix SMP3PM board need?
It runs off standard 120V line power through its transformer, which is the normal branch circuit in a commercial building. No special service is required at the panel location.
