American Standard A8022T-CO.020 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size rough opening does the American Standard Aspirations A8022T shower base need?
The Aspirations A8022T-CO base is a 48 x 36 inch single threshold pan, so frame the alcove to that footprint. It has a 3-sided tile/water retention flange, meaning three walls surround it and the fourth side is the open threshold entry. Set the flange sides against the studs so the backer board and tile lap over the flange.
2) Where is the drain on the Aspirations 48 x 36 shower base?
Center drain. Set your waste line to the middle of the 48 x 36 footprint before the pan goes in, since the base ships configured for a center location and there's no left or right option on it.
3) Does the Aspirations shower base come with a drain, or do I order one separately?
A white drain cover is part of the base, finished to match the glossy white pan for a low-profile look at the floor. Plan on connecting it to your trap and waste line as a separate rough-in step.
4) What is this shower base made of and will it hold up in a rental unit?
It's acrylic, stain and chip resistant, with a textured no-slip floor surface. For a property manager turning apartments, acrylic wipes clean and won't chalk the way an older fiberglass pan does, and the textured floor removes the need for a mat.
5) Does the Aspirations base need a mortar bed under it?
It has built-in leveling feet, so the pan is shimmed and leveled on its own supports rather than floated on a full mortar bed. Get the feet set true before you fasten the flange; an out-of-level pan will show at the threshold and at the drain.
6) What other sizes does the Aspirations shower base come in if 48 x 36 doesn't fit my alcove?
The Aspirations pan is made in 60 x 30 inch, 60 x 32 inch, 60 x 36 inch, and 48 x 36 inch. If you're standardizing across a building, the 60-inch widths drop into a typical tub alcove when you're converting tub to shower, while 48 x 36 suits a smaller dedicated shower bay.
7) What color is the A8022T-CO.020 shower base?
White only, ordered as MPN A8022T-CO.020, in a glossy white finish meant to sit with the rest of the Aspirations bath collection. The drain cover is white as well, so nothing breaks up the floor visually.
