American Standard Cadet PRO 10-Inch Rough Toilet Tank Cover - AMS-735173-400

This is the lid for the Cadet PRO tank built for a 10-inch rough-in, part 735173-400. Cadet PRO tanks come in 10-inch, 12-inch and 14-inch rough-in versions and the tank castings are not the same, so a lid ordered for one rough-in will not seat correctly on another. Measure from the finished wall to the center of the closet bolts on the floor; if that comes out at 10 inches, this is the right lid.

Lid only. It is the vitreous china cover that sits on top of the Cadet PRO tank, with no tank body, fill valve, flush valve or trip lever in the box. If the tank itself is cracked or the flush guts have failed, this part won't solve it. Buy the cover when the original lid is chipped, broken, or went missing during a turnover.

Three colors: White (735173-400.020), Bone (735173-400.021), and Linen (735173-400.222). American Standard color-codes the suffix on the part number, so the fastest way to match an installed toilet is to read the number stamped inside the old lid or inside the tank and order the same suffix. Bone and Linen are close enough to each other in daylight that guessing from memory across a building tends to end in a return.

No. The Cadet PRO is a High Efficiency Toilet at 4.8 Lpf/1.28 gpf that meets EPA WaterSense criteria, and that performance comes from the Cadet flushing system, the PowerWash rim and the flush valve inside the tank. The cover is a china lid over the top. Putting the correct lid back on restores the toilet to how it left the factory; it neither improves nor degrades the flush.

The Cadet PRO uses a trade exclusive tank, which is why the retail-channel Cadet models you see on a store shelf are not the same casting. Don't match a lid by eye against a retail Cadet. Match by the part number stamped in the china, and for the 10-inch rough version that number is 735173-400 plus the color suffix.

Replace it. The lid is vitreous china, a fired ceramic with no reinforcement, so a hairline crack propagates every time the lid is lifted for a fill valve check and it eventually fails in someone's hands. There is no repair that restores it. On high-traffic commercial and multi-family restrooms, a cracked lid is a replacement item, not a maintenance item.

None. The cover sets down onto the rim of the tank under its own weight, with no bolts, gaskets or fasteners. Set it flat so it seats evenly on the china rim, and check that the trip lever clears the underside of the lid before you walk away.
