American Standard 042850-0070A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the AMS-42850 diverter a faucet part or a shower valve part?
Faucet. The 42850 diverter is catalogued for faucet applications, so it is the diverter that redirects flow at the faucet itself (tub spout to shower, or spout to sprayer), not a rough-in shower valve cartridge.
2) How long is the American Standard Eljer diverter, and will it clear the depth of my faucet body?
The stated dimensions are 10.433 x 4.1 x 1 inches. That 10.433 figure is the long axis, so pull your old diverter and measure it before ordering; a short stub-style diverter is a different part even if the faucet brand matches.
3) Does the Eljer diverter come with a finish to match my faucet trim?
It ships unfinished, in a single no-finish version. That is normal for a diverter body: the visible knob or handle stays with your existing trim, and the replacement part sits inside the faucet where finish is irrelevant.
