American Standard A950842-0020A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the American Standard A950842 escutcheon with diverter, and is the diverter valve included?
It's the trim escutcheon (the decorative wall or deck plate) for an American Standard faucet, supplied with the diverter. Part number is A950842-0020A in chrome. It is a repair/trim part, not a complete faucet body, so the faucet itself stays in place and you are only replacing the visible plate and the diverter that routes flow between outlets.
2) I manage apartments and need to fix a tub faucet that won't switch to the shower. Is this the part?
If the faucet is American Standard and the failure is in the diverter, this is the right class of part: A950842-0020A is the escutcheon supplied with the diverter for an American Standard faucet. Match it to the specific faucet model you have before ordering, because escutcheon plates are line-specific and a plate from another series won't cover the same hole pattern.
3) What finish does American Standard part A950842 come in?
Chrome only. The single orderable version is A950842-0020A, so if the other trim on the fixture is brushed nickel or bronze it will not match and you'll want the finish-matching part for that faucet line instead.
4) Is the A950842 escutcheon a cover plate or a working valve part?
Both, in one assembly. The escutcheon is the finish plate that hides the wall or deck opening, and this version ships with the diverter, the working component that sends water to the alternate outlet. Buying it as one part means a plumber replaces the trim and the diverter in a single pass rather than sourcing them separately.
