American Standard 2771VC.020 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the American Standard Evolution 2771VC drop-in tub come with a drain, or do I order that separately?
The drain is a separate order. The Evolution deep soak tub requires the Deep Soak Max Drain, which is not packed with the tub, so the drain has to go on the order alongside it or the rough-in cannot be finished.
2) What rough opening do I need to frame for the 60 x 36 Evolution drop-in tub?
Frame to the actual tub outside dimensions, not the nominal 60 x 36. The unit measures 62.56 length, 38.56 width and 23.62 height in inches, so the deck cutout and framing have to accommodate a 62.56 by 38.56 footprint with a rim flange landing on the deck.
3) Is the Evolution 2771VC a soaker or a jetted tub?
It's a jetted deep soak tub. The hydromassage system runs eight jets off a single speed pump and motor, switched on and off by a side-mounted air switch. If you want a plain soaker with no pump, plumbing, or electrical circuit, this is the wrong model.
4) Can this Evolution tub be undermounted instead of dropped into a deck?
Yes. The Evolution 2771VC is built for drop-in installation but also carries an undermount option, so it can be set below a stone or tile deck with the surround material lapping the rim.
5) Is this tub approved for commercial or multi-family use?
American Standard classifies the Evolution 2771VC as a residential product. For hotel, dorm, or other commercial washroom work, spec a tub carried in a commercial line rather than this one.
6) Do I need to build a mortar bed or shim this tub level?
No mortar bed is needed to level it. The tub bottom is pre-leveled from the factory, so it sets onto a flat, supported subfloor and the installer works to the deck rim rather than shimming the base.
7) What does the EverClean system on this American Standard whirlpool tub actually do?
EverClean is an antimicrobial treatment on the surfaces of the circulation plumbing, aimed at the standing water left in the jet lines after a bath. It addresses buildup inside the piping; it does not replace draining and wiping the tub itself.
8) What colors does the 2771VC come in?
White only, ordered as part number 2771VC.020. There is no other finish in this configuration, so a biscuit or linen deck would need a different model.
9) Does this tub have armrests, or is the interior flat-walled?
Dual armrests are molded into the shell, so they are part of the acrylic, not add-on pads. That shapes the interior and is worth checking against a bather who wants a fully straight-walled soaking well.
