American Standard 3451576.02 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the American Standard Madera 15-inch touchless toilet system come with a seat?
No seat is included. The Madera 15-inch EverClean system ships as an elongated floor mount flushometer bowl, top spud, less seat, packaged with the touchless Selectronic piston flush valve. You'll need to order an elongated commercial seat separately, and in most commercial restrooms that means an open-front seat without a cover.
2) Is the Madera 15-inch rim height toilet ADA compliant?
The Madera in this configuration has a 15-inch (381 mm) rim height, which is the standard height bowl rather than the taller right-height model. ADA ambulatory and accessible stalls call for a 17 to 19 inch seat height measured to the top of the seat, so a 15-inch rim generally will not get you there. For an accessible stall, specify the taller Madera bowl instead.
3) Do I need a separate flush valve for this Madera toilet?
No. The flush valve is part of the package. The Madera 15-inch EverClean system ships with a touchless piston-operated Selectronic flush valve already matched to the bowl, so you are not sourcing a Sloan or separate flushometer. The bowl is a top spud flushometer bowl, so the valve connects at the top of the bowl rather than back spud.
4) Does this touchless flush valve need to be wired, or does it run on batteries?
Battery powered, no electrical rough-in needed. An 8-year CR-P2 lithium battery comes installed in the valve. That makes it a practical retrofit in restrooms where there is no power at the fixture and running conduit into a finished wall is not on the table.
5) What happens if the sensor fails or the battery dies on the Selectronic flush valve?
There is a fully mechanical manual override that operates without power. If the battery runs down or the sensor quits, the fixture can still be flushed by hand, so you do not have a stall out of service while maintenance sources a battery. For a property manager running a public restroom, that override is the difference between a work order and a closed stall.
6) Can I use this Madera bowl with my existing back spud flush valve?
No. This Madera bowl is a top spud flushometer bowl, so it takes the valve at the top of the bowl. If your existing openings are piped for a back spud bowl, the rough-in will not line up and you would need a back spud model instead. Confirm which way your supply comes out of the wall before ordering.
7) How much water does the Madera dual flush Selectronic toilet use per flush?
It's a dual flush setup: 1.6 gpf (6.0 Lpf) for the full flush and 1.1 gpf (4.2 Lpf) for the reduced flush. That 1.6 gallon full flush is the federal maximum for a water closet, so it meets standard code water use while the reduced flush cuts consumption on liquid waste.
8) Will a 1.1 gallon reduced flush clog in a high traffic restroom?
The bowl carries a maximum 1,000 gram MaP score, which is the top of the MaP scale and the highest bulk removal rating a toilet can post. For schools, stadiums, and other heavy-use restrooms where drain line carry is the real concern, that rating is the number to point at on a submittal.
9) What stops the flush valve from running on and wasting water?
The valve uses DynaClean self-cleaning wiper spring technology, with an integral wiper spring that cleans the refill orifice on every flush. A clogged refill orifice is the usual cause of a flushometer running on, so this addresses the common failure mode in buildings with hard or dirty water. For an MRO crew, fewer run-on calls is the point.
10) Is this toilet a tank type or does it need a flushometer supply?
Flushometer. There is no tank. The Madera is a floor mount flushometer bowl, which means it relies on building supply pressure and volume through the valve rather than storing water in a tank. If the building was plumbed for tank type toilets with small supply lines, a flushometer fixture is usually the wrong call for that opening.
11) What is EverClean on the American Standard Madera bowl, and does it wear off?
EverClean is a permanent surface treatment fired into the china, not a coating applied after the fact, so it does not wear off with cleaning. It inhibits growth of the bacteria, mold, and mildew that cause stains and odors on the surface. It is not a substitute for cleaning the fixture, but in a restroom that gets wiped rather than scrubbed, it keeps the bowl from staining as fast.
