1) Will this American Standard sensor retrofit work on Sloan or Zurn flush valves, or only American Standard?
The SMGODIA side-mount retrofit is made to fit American Standard, Sloan and Zurn diaphragm flush valves, so you are not limited to American Standard valves. The one thing that matters is the valve type: it is for diaphragm valves. If the valve on the wall is a piston type, this is not the right retrofit.
2) Do I have to shut off the water to install a sensor retrofit on an existing flushometer?
No. The SMGODIA mounts to the side of the existing diaphragm flushometer and installs without shutting off the water supply, which is why it suits occupied restrooms where you cannot take a whole bank of fixtures out of service. The manual valve stays in place and becomes automatic.
3) Is this sensor flush kit hardwired or battery powered?
Battery powered, and the batteries come with it: four C-size alkaline cells are included in the box. No transformer, no conduit run, no electrician, which is the usual reason facilities pick a side-mount retrofit over a hardwired sensor valve.
