American Standard M953530-0020A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the American Standard Spotclean showerhead come with a shower arm and flange?
No. The Spotclean showerhead ships as a head only, less arm and flange. If you're replacing a whole assembly or roughing in a new shower, you'll need to order the shower arm and escutcheon flange separately. For a straight head swap onto an existing arm, that's all you need.
2) Will this American Standard showerhead thread onto my existing shower arm?
Yes, in the normal case. Wall shower arms in North America terminate in a 1/2 inch NPT male thread and showerheads are built to that connection, so the Spotclean goes onto an arm already in the wall. Back the old head off, clean the threads, wrap tape, hand-tighten and snug with a wrench on the flats.
3) Can one person install the Spotclean showerhead, or do I need a plumber?
It's a one-person install. The head threads onto an existing shower arm, so a maintenance tech with a wrench and some thread tape can do the swap without shutting down the building or pulling a licensed plumber. That's what makes it practical for unit-by-unit turnover work.
4) Is the American Standard Spotclean a fixed wall-mount showerhead or a handheld?
Fixed wall-mount. The Spotclean is a showerhead that mounts to a standard wall shower arm, not a handshower on a hose with a slide bar. If you need a handheld for ADA-accessible bathing or for cleaning a tub surround, this isn't the part, look for a handshower kit with hose and bracket instead.
5) I'm ordering showerheads for a whole apartment building. What do I need to order alongside this one?
Plan on a shower arm and flange per unit if you're replacing the arm or building new, because the Spotclean is supplied as the head alone. On a pure head-for-head refresh across occupied units, no extra parts are needed beyond thread sealant. Since it's built in a single chrome finish, you get a consistent look across every opening without tracking finish codes per unit.
6) What finish is the American Standard Spotclean showerhead available in?
Polished chrome, and that is the only finish it's built in (model M953530-0020A). Chrome is the safe match for most existing trim in multi-family and hospitality baths, so if your other valve trim and tub spouts are chrome, this drops right in visually.
7) What is the manufacturer part number for the American Standard Spotclean showerhead in chrome?
M953530-0020A is the American Standard part number for the chrome Spotclean showerhead. The 0020A suffix is the chrome finish code. Use that number when you're matching a spec sheet or reordering to keep a building standardized on one head.
