If your sink becomes clogged, the hose leading to your drain will to start to push water back into your appliances, including your dishwasher. Blanco 443033 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does a dishwasher air gap actually do, and do I need one?
An air gap breaks the siphon between the dishwasher drain hose and the sink drain. If the drain clogs, waste water gets pushed back up the hose and can flood the dishwasher with contaminated water. The Blanco 443033 air gap prevents that backflow, and plumbing codes in many jurisdictions require an air gap on a dishwasher drain. If your local code calls for one, this satisfies that requirement.
2) Will the Blanco 443033 air gap mount in my sink's extra faucet hole?
It is made to drop into a standard sink deck faucet hole and Blanco states it fits all BLANCO faucet holes. On a Blanco sink with a fourth (accessory) hole, this is the matching part. On a non-Blanco sink, confirm your deck hole matches a standard accessory hole before ordering.
3) Is the Blanco air gap plastic or metal?
Solid brass body, not plastic. That matters if the air gap sits visible on the sink deck alongside a metal faucet, and it is why the finishes hold up rather than yellowing the way plastic caps do.
4) What finishes does the Blanco 443033 air gap come in?
Blanco offers the air gap in Polished Chrome, PVD Steel, Matte Black, and Satin Gold, and the 443033 part number is the Chrome version. Blanco's premium finishes are made to resist tarnishing and corrosion, so you can match the air gap cap to the faucet on the same deck instead of leaving a chrome cap next to a matte black faucet.
5) Can I use this Blanco air gap with a garbage disposal setup?
Yes. An air gap works the same whether the dishwasher drain hose runs to a disposal inlet or straight to the sink tailpiece: the hose comes up to the air gap, then a second hose runs back down to the disposal or drain. The Blanco 443033 is the deck-mounted air gap itself; the hoses and clamps that connect it to the dishwasher and the drain are not part of it, so plan on supplying those.
6) I'm replacing a leaking plastic air gap cap in a rental unit. Is this a straight swap?
Functionally yes, it is the same deck-mounted dishwasher air gap, with a brass body instead of plastic. Because it is designed for a standard sink faucet hole, it goes back into the same opening the old one came out of. Reuse or replace the two drain hoses as needed; the air gap does not include them. For a multi-unit building, standardizing on the brass Chrome version keeps every kitchen the same part number, 443033.
