The BLANCO AIR GAP is an effective way to prevent backflow into your dishwasher. If your sink becomes clogged, the hose leading to your drain will to start to push water back into your appliances, including your dishwasher. Without an air gap your dishwasher can flood with contaminated or waste water. Often, air gaps are required by plumbing codes and the BLANCO AIR GAP satisfies these plumbing regulations.

Blanco 443272 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does a dishwasher air gap actually do, and do I need one?
An air gap breaks the siphon between the dishwasher drain hose and the sink drain. If the drain clogs, waste water gets pushed back up the hose and can flood the dishwasher with contaminated water. The Blanco 443272 air gap prevents that backflow, and plumbing codes in many jurisdictions require an air gap on a dishwasher drain line.
2) Will the Blanco air gap mount in my existing sink or countertop faucet hole?
It is made to drop into Blanco faucet holes, so on a Blanco sink deck it mounts in the accessory hole without adapting. On a non-Blanco sink or a countertop, an air gap normally needs a standard 1-3/8 inch hole, so verify the hole you have before ordering.
3) What finish is Blanco 443272?
443272 is the Satin Dark Steel version. The air gap is offered in Polished Chrome, PVD Steel, Matte Black and Satin Gold as well, so if you are matching an existing Blanco faucet or strainer you pick the matching code rather than this one.
4) Is this air gap brass or plastic, and will the finish hold up at a busy kitchen sink?
The body is solid brass, not plastic, and the Blanco finish is stated to resist tarnishing and corrosion. That matters for multi-family and hospitality kitchens where a plated plastic cap tends to craze or discolour near the faucet.
5) Do I still need an air gap if I loop the dishwasher hose high under the counter?
A high loop is not a substitute where code calls for an air gap, and it does not physically break the siphon the way an air gap does. If your inspector or local plumbing code requires the air gap, the Blanco unit satisfies that requirement; a high loop alone will not.
6) Is the Blanco air gap the visible deck cap or the whole under-sink fitting?
It is the sink-deck mounted air gap for a kitchen sink application, the piece you see above the counter along with the body it caps. It is a drain-line accessory, not a faucet and not a disposal fitting.
