TOTO TB2F – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How many holes does the TOTO deck-mount tub filler valve need in the tub deck?
Hole count depends on the model. The TBMV, TBMV2 and TB2F are 4-hole valves; the TBMT and TBMT2 are 3-hole. Lay out the deck for widespread mounting, since the hot valve, cold valve, spout base fitting and hand shower each land in their own hole rather than on a single plate. Confirm the model before the deck is drilled or cast, because a 3-hole valve will leave an open hole on a 4-hole deck.
2) Does the TOTO tub filler valve come with the handles and spout, or do I need to buy trim separately?
Trim is a separate purchase. The valve ships as the rough-in package: hot and cold valve bodies, hoses, hand shower and spout base fitting. To finish the installation you need a two-handle deck-mount roman tub filler trim with hand shower, either the TB624S1 or the TB626S1. Order both together, or the tub sits roughed in with nothing to turn.
3) Do I need separate shutoff valves for a TOTO roman tub filler rough-in?
Yes. The valve has no integral service stops and no positive shut-off, so isolation has to come from stops on the supply lines or from an access panel with valves behind the tub deck. Plan that access before the deck is closed up, because a roman tub valve buried under a stone surround with no local shutoff means shutting down the whole riser to service a cartridge.
4) What is the difference between the TOTO TBMT, TBMT2, TBMV, TBMV2 and TB2F tub filler valves?
They differ by hole count and by weight of the assembly. TBMT and TBMT2 are three-hole, three-port valves at 5 and 4.9 pounds. TBMV, TBMV2 and TB2F are four-hole, four-port, at 5.8, 7.7 and 9.9 pounds. The extra port on the four-hole models is what carries the separate hand shower outlet. Pick from the deck the tub is drilled or cast for.
5) Can I use a TOTO roman tub filler valve with a wall-mounted or freestanding tub filler?
No. This is a deck-mount valve, drilled through the tub deck or surround, and it pairs specifically with TOTO two-handle deck-mount roman tub filler trims with hand shower. A wall-mount or floor-mount freestanding filler uses a different rough-in entirely, so this valve will not serve either one.
6) Is a tub drain included with the TOTO deck-mount tub filler valve?
No drain is included. The valve covers the fill side only, so the waste and overflow assembly is a separate line item on the order. For a multi-unit or hospitality job, spec the drain at the same time as the filler trim so the rough-in and the finish arrive as one package.
7) Is a TOTO deck-mount roman tub valve suitable for a rental or hotel bathroom that gets hard water?
Construction is solid bronze and corrosion resistant, which is what holds up in a fleet of units where the water is aggressive and the fixtures get used daily. Worth noting for a property manager standardizing across bathrooms: the valve has no built-in stops, so each tub needs its own isolation and an access route for service, otherwise a single cartridge swap takes the unit offline.
8) Where can I get the rough-in dimensions and parts breakdown for the TOTO TB2F valve?
TOTO publishes a spec sheet, an installation sheet and a manual parts sheet for the TB2F, and ZenSupply carries all three on the product record. Spec and parts sheets are also on file for the TBMT, TBMT2, TBMV and TBMV2, with installation sheets for the TBMV2. Pull the sheet for the model you are ordering before the plumber sets the hole centers.
