The TOTO® ECOPOWER® 0.35 GPM Controller for Bathroom Faucet Spout is designed for use with TOTO 0.35 GPM ECOPOWER spouts. The ECOPOWER faucet is ideal for high-traffic commercial spaces and provides an elegant water conservation solution. Powered by the force of running water, ECOPOWER hydro-turbines create an electrical current that is stored in rechargeable cells to power the Smart Sensor System of the faucet. The ECOPOWER faucet is highly efficient, replenishing power stores in as little as five uses daily. No external power source or battery replacement is necessary. The sensor is located at the tip of the spout to more accurately sense the hands of the user for touchless use. 1) What does the TOTO TELC103R-D20E controller actually do, and do I need a spout too?
The TELC103R-D20E is the control valve half of a TOTO ECOPOWER touchless faucet, not a complete faucet. It mounts under the deck and handles the solenoid and the hydro-turbine power system; the sensor itself sits at the tip of the spout, so the spout is a separate order. It works with TOTO 0.35 GPM ECOPOWER spouts. The controller ships with its mounting hardware, but the spout, the supply line for the G 1/2 connection, and a mixing valve if your water is not pre-mixed all have to be bought alongside it.
2) What supply connection does the TOTO ECOPOWER controller valve take?
G 1/2 threaded inlet. That is a parallel BSP-style thread, not the NPT you would find on a domestic angle stop, so plan on the TOTO supply line built for the G 1/2 connection rather than adapting whatever is under the lavatory now. The supply line is not in the box.
3) Does the ECOPOWER controller need power or batteries run to the sink?
No wiring and no battery changes. The ECOPOWER system runs a hydro-turbine off the water passing through it and stores the charge in a rechargeable lithium ion cell that comes with the controller. Five uses a day is enough to keep it topped up. For a retrofit into an existing restroom that matters more than anything else on the spec: you are not pulling a circuit to the lavatory and you are not putting a battery swap on the PM schedule.
4) Will a TOTO ECOPOWER faucet meet ADA and California water rules for a public restroom?
ADA compliant, and the 0.35 GPM flow rate carries both CALGreen and CEC compliance. Touchless operation with no handle to grip or turn is what carries the ADA side. For a school, healthcare, or municipal job in California, that combination is usually what the plumbing spec is asking for on a public lavatory.
5) Can I get warm water out of a TOTO ECOPOWER 0.35 GPM faucet, or is it cold only?
Tempered water is possible, but the controller does not blend. It takes one supply. If hot and cold are not already mixed upstream, you add a mixing valve, which is a separate purchase. On a multi-lavatory restroom most designers feed the whole run off one thermostatic mixing valve and then drop a single tempered line to each controller.
6) Is the TOTO ECOPOWER controller a single-hole deck mount or does it need a widespread lavatory?
Single-hole deck mount. The spout goes through one hole in the deck and the TELC103R-D20E controller hangs below it. If you are replacing a widespread or 4-inch centerset, you are looking at a new lavatory top or a deck plate to cover the outer holes, and TOTO does not include one with the controller.
7) Can I use this controller with a 0.5 GPM ECOPOWER spout instead of a 0.35?
No. The TELC103R-D20E is matched to TOTO 0.35 GPM ECOPOWER spouts and its flow rate is 0.35 GPM. Pairing it to a different flow spout is not a combination TOTO calls out. If your spec sheet says 0.5 GPM, order the controller built for that rate rather than this one.
8) How long does the water run on the TOTO ECOPOWER on-demand faucet before it shuts off?
Flow runs up to 20 seconds on demand and stops as soon as hands leave the sensor. It cannot be left running, which is the reason this style shows up in high-traffic public restrooms, stadiums, and schools where a stuck-open handle floods a room overnight. Hands present, water flows; hands gone, water stops.
9) Does the TELC103R-D20E come with a drain or pop-up assembly?
No drain is included. The controller and its mounting hardware are what is in the carton. Add a grid drain or pop-up to your order, and on a touchless public lavatory a non-closing grid strainer is the usual call since there is no lift rod on the faucet to work a pop-up.
10) Which part number do I put on the submittal for the TOTO ECOPOWER 0.35 GPM controller?
TELC103R-D20E is the manufacturer part number, and it identifies the controller only. A complete submittal for the lavatory needs that number plus the ECOPOWER 0.35 GPM spout model, the G 1/2 supply line, a drain, and a mixing valve if the water reaching the fixture is not already tempered.
11) What is the TOTO ECOPOWER valve body made of?
Brass and plastic. The wetted valve body work is brass; the housing and sensor electronics carry the plastic. That is the standard build for a commercial under-deck electronic control valve and it is what keeps the assembly light enough to hang off the underside of a lavatory deck.
