TOTO TLE01501U – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the TOTO TLE touchless faucet controller come with the spout, or do I have to order that separately?
The controller and its mounting hardware are what you get. The spout is a separate order, and so is the supply line for the G 1/2 connection. If the water reaching the fixture is not already tempered, you also need a mixing valve, which is not included either. Budget those three lines on the same order or the faucet will not be complete at rough-in.
2) What supply connection does the TOTO TLE controller valve use?
G 1/2 inlet. That is a parallel-thread metric connection, so the flexible supply line has to be a G 1/2 hose rather than a US NPT nipple threaded straight in. The supply line is ordered separately from the controller.
3) Do I need to run 120V power to a TOTO TLE sensor faucet, or is there a version that does not need electrical?
Both exist. The AC versions run on a 120V AC supply, so an electrician has to get power to the lav. The EcoPower versions are self powered by the water flow, which is what you want on a retrofit where there is no receptacle under the sink and no easy path for one. There are also EWATER+AC versions, which are AC powered. Pick the power option before you order, because it changes the rough-in scope entirely.
4) Which flow rate should I specify on a TOTO TLE controller for a California job?
0.35 GPM is the one that meets CEC and CALGreen. The controller is also offered at 0.5 and 1.0 GPM for jurisdictions or facility types where a higher rate is acceptable or preferred, but on a California project the 0.35 GPM version is the one that clears the state requirement. Model TLE01501U is the 0.35 GPM AC version.
5) Is the TOTO TLE touchless controller ADA compliant for a public restroom?
ADA compliant, per TOTO. Being a sensor faucet it needs no grasping, pinching or twisting at all, which is the part of the requirement a manual handle usually struggles with in a public or institutional washroom.
6) What is the difference between the on-demand and continuous run settings on a TOTO sensor faucet valve?
On-demand means water runs only while a user's hands are under the sensor, and the timer number (10 or 20 second) is the maximum it will run before shutting itself off. The 20 second continuous option runs a full timed cycle once triggered. On-demand is the water-conserving choice for a standard hand-wash lav; continuous suits places where you want a fixed measured run per activation. Either way it cannot be left running by accident.
7) Will the TOTO TLE controller fit a single-hole lavatory?
Single-hole deck mount is exactly what it is built for, and the mounting hardware comes with the controller. If your existing lav is drilled 4 inch centerset or 8 inch widespread, you will be covering or plating the outer holes, since the sensor spout uses the center hole only.
8) Do I need a mixing valve with a TOTO touchless bathroom faucet?
Only if the water arriving at the fixture is not already pre-mixed. Where the building tempers water upstream, the controller takes that single tempered supply and you are done. Where you are bringing hot and cold to the lav, you need a mixing valve to blend and set the delivered temperature, and it is a separate order from the controller.
9) Can I standardize one TOTO sensor faucet controller across a whole facility and still vary the flow rate?
Yes, the TLE controller family runs across 0.35, 0.5 and 1.0 GPM with the same installation approach, so a facility can hold one part family and specify flow per restroom group, for example 0.35 GPM where a water-conservation credit is being chased and a higher rate elsewhere. Power option (AC, EcoPower, or EWATER+AC) and the run-time valve setting are specified per unit as well, so retrofit lavs without power can take EcoPower while new construction takes AC, with the same controller family throughout.
10) Where is the sensor on the TOTO TLE touchless faucet, in the spout or in the deck?
At the tip of the spout. That placement puts the detection zone right where hands go, so response is immediate rather than requiring the user to hunt for a sensor eye on the base. It also means the sensor lives in the separately ordered spout, not in the controller body.
