1) What is the TOTO TBN01105U rough-in base actually for?
It's the under-floor rough-in for a TOTO freestanding tub filler. The base anchors the filler to the floor and carries the water up into it through 1/2 inch FNPT inlet connections. Yes. At 3.125 inches tall with 1/2 inch FNPT inlets underneath, the base has to be set and the supplies connected while the subfloor is open. Once tile or stone is down, you'd be cutting the finished floor to reach it. Set the base, pressure test the 1/2 inch connections, then finish the floor around it and mount the filler last.
5) Is the TBN01105U rough-in base brass all the way through, or plated?
The body is solid forged brass, chosen for corrosion resistance since it lives below the finished floor where it can sit in moisture. Finish isn't a concern on this piece, it's concealed once the trim and filler go on. The single configuration TOTO sells carries the part number TBN01105U.
