TOTO PPY1780PTEU#P – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the TOTO PPY1780PTEU#P tub come with a faucet or tub filler?
No faucet or tub filler ships with the PPY1780 Flotation tub, and no heater either. It is a drop-in bathing well only, so the filler has to be ordered separately and, because it is a drop-in, it mounts on the deck you build around the tub or on the wall, not on the tub itself. Plan the valve rough-in and the deck penetration before the tub is set.
2) Is the TOTO Flotation 1700 a drop-in or an alcove tub, and what does that mean for my rough-in?
Drop-in. There is no finished apron and no tiling flange, so it has to sit in a deck or platform that you frame and finish, with an access panel for the drain and trap. If the bathroom is a standard three-wall alcove with a tiled surround and the tub face is exposed, this is the wrong style and you want an alcove or skirted freestanding model instead. Drop-in is the right call when the tub sits in a built platform, an island deck, or a corner surround.
3) How deep is the water in the TOTO PPY1780 soaker tub before it hits the overflow?
15.5 inches to the overflow. That is the real soaking depth, deeper than a conventional 14 inch alcove tub, and it is what puts the water over the shoulders when reclined. The basin depth spec is 45.93 inches. If a client is buying this for a genuine soak rather than a shower-over-tub, the 15.5 inch figure is the number that matters.
4) Is the TOTO Flotation tub safe for an older resident getting in and out?
The bathing surface is slip resistant, which is the feature that matters most for entry and exit on a drop-in, since the user is stepping over a deck edge. Combined with the RECLINE COMFORT contour, which holds the bather stable rather than letting them slide, it suits a residential setting where the occupant is aging in place. Grab bars and the deck height are separate decisions and are not part of the tub.
5) What is TOTO's RECLINE COMFORT on the Flotation tub actually doing?
It is a shaped interior, not a jet system or a powered feature. The contour supports the bather so the body feels buoyant while staying stable and enclosed. There are no pumps, blowers, or heaters involved, and none are included, so the plumbing is the same as any soaker: supply, waste, and overflow. Anyone expecting air or water jets is looking at the wrong tub and should be shopping an air bath or whirlpool instead.
6) What shape is the TOTO PPY1780 tub and will it work in a rectangular platform?
Rectangle, so it drops into a squared-off framed platform without the curved deck cuts an oval tub forces. The basin width spec is 17.72 inches. For a property manager standardizing bathrooms across units, the rectangular footprint is the easier one to repeat, since the deck framing detail is the same opening every time.
7) What finish does the TOTO PPY1780PTEU#P come in?
One finish only, Pearl White, under MPN PPY1780PTEU#P. The pearl material is the tub body itself rather than a coating over steel or iron, and it is lighter than either. There is no color option to specify on the order, so the only companion decisions are the tub filler and the drain trim, neither of which is included.
