TOTO THP5638#CP – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the TOTO THP5638#CP part?
THP5638#CP is a TOTO shower slide bar, the wall-mounted bar with a sliding hanger bracket that holds a handshower and lets you set its height. It's a replacement or add-on part for shower and tub applications, not a complete handshower kit, so the spray head and hose are ordered separately.
2) Does the THP5638#CP slide bar come with a handshower and hose?
No. THP5638#CP is sold as the slide bar and hanger only, a TOTO repair and replacement part. If you are building a complete setup from scratch you'll also need the handshower, the hose, and a supply elbow or diverter spout to feed it.
3) I'm replacing a broken slide bar on a TOTO shower - will this one line up with my existing mounting holes?
Only if the original was the same TOTO part. THP5638#CP is a TOTO-specific slide bar, and bar length and bracket hole spacing vary between manufacturers and even between TOTO models, so it is not a guaranteed drop-in over another brand's bar. For a like-for-like swap, match the TOTO part number off the old bar or its escutcheon before ordering.
4) Is the TOTO THP5638#CP slide bar polished chrome?
Yes. The #CP suffix in TOTO's part numbering is their polished chrome finish, and THP5638#CP is the only configuration this bar is built in, so there is no brushed nickel or matte black version of this particular part number to confuse it with.
5) Can I use this TOTO slide bar over a tub as well as in a shower stall?
Both. The THP5638#CP bar is specified for shower and tub use, so it works on a tub/shower wall as a height-adjustable handshower mount as well as in a standard shower enclosure. What decides placement is the wall backing behind the mounting points, since a slide bar carries side load every time someone pulls the wand off the bracket.
