TOTO THP5638#PN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the TOTO THP5638 slide bar include a handshower and hose?
No. THP5638 is the slide bar and shower hanger only. The handshower, hose, and supply elbow or outlet are separate items, so plan on ordering them alongside it to complete the installation.
2) What is the TOTO THP5638 part, and where does it get used?
THP5638 is a shower slide bar, also called a shower hanger. It mounts on the shower wall and lets a handshower slide up and down so the spray height can be set for different users. TOTO lists it for shower and tub applications.
3) What is the correct part number to order for the TOTO slide bar in polished nickel?
Order THP5638#PN. The #PN suffix is TOTO's finish code, so the base part is THP5638 and the suffix after the pound sign identifies the finish on the bar and bracket. Quote the full code including the suffix when ordering so the finish matches the rest of the trim.
4) Can a TOTO handshower slide bar be installed on a tub/shower combination, not just a stall shower?
Yes. TOTO lists the THP5638 slide bar for both shower and tub use, so it works on a tub/shower wall as well as a stall. On a tub install, set the bar low enough that the handshower can be reached from a seated position in the tub.
5) We are standardizing bathrooms across a property. Is a slide bar a better choice than a fixed handshower hook?
A slide bar gives height adjustment, which a fixed wall hook does not, and that is what makes it useful in multi-family, hospitality, and accessible bathrooms where a handshower has to serve both standing and seated users. The tradeoff is two anchor points in the wall instead of one, so blocking or proper hollow-wall anchors matter at both brackets. THP5638 is TOTO's slide bar for shower and tub applications.
